Celebrate 100 Years With The Community

On July 15 and 16, a weekend of celebrations and events will highlight two anniversaries for Yachats. One hundred years ago, the town changed its name from Oceanview to Yachats, and fifty years ago the town was incorporated. For locals and visitors alike, the weekend will bring together the best of the Yachats community. Visitors can make a getaway out of it by staying at the Overleaf Lodge & Spa or Fireside Motel and enjoying the Oregon Coast on a summer weekend.

Saturday, July 15

Head to the Commons, a community center in the heart of town, for a lunch (from $3-$4). Listen to live music from the Yachats Big Band as you look at the presentations of history and art that will be on display throughout the weekend at the center.

Sunday, July 16

At noon, join the Yachats community for a celebration at the Commons picnic shelter. Hot dogs, hamburgers and dessert will be provided by the city for no charge, and you can also bring your own picnic to the event. In addition, many restaurants will be offering free dessert. Picnic goers are encouraged to dress up in period-style clothing from the last 100 years, or as a character from Yachats’ history.

There will also be live music from They Went That-a-way and the Bad Weeds. Get there by 11:30 a.m. so you don’t miss out on being in the community photo on the lawn. From 1 to 4 p.m., there will be a community art project led by Raziah.
