Summer Fun on the Oregon Coast

With the full swing of summer upon us, we know our guests want to soak up as much fun as possible during this last month of summer vacation.  The Yachats area is a treasure trove of fun, and we have some unique summer activities that are perfect for the entire family, or a playful outing for two.  Yachats is about getting outdoors and reveling in its incomparably beautiful surroundings.  Let’s get outside and play!

Beaver Creek Kayak Tours

Get closer to nature with a kayak tour along Beaver Creek, at the Brian Booth State Park.  Bring your own canoe or kayak, or sign up for a guided kayak tour (equipment provided) in this diverse natural area.  You will spend over two hours paddling through this peaceful waterway with a state park ranger, learning about the local flora and fauna.  Guided tours are offered July through Labor Day weekend, five days a week, with the exception of Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Call the park directly at 541-563-6413 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  If paddling doesn’t quite do it for you, this natural area is still worth a visit.  It encompasses 318 acres of wetlands, meadows, orchard and forest, with a multitude of meandering trails to explore.  It is a bird lover’s dream and is rich with wildlife viewing opportunities.  It is common to sight bald eagles, great blue heron, osprey, egrets, ducks and kingfishers, just to name a few of the more prominent winged inhabitants.  Deer, elk and beaver are also frequent visitors in this area.  Make sure to visit the interpretive center for a trail map to get you started in the right direction.

Horseback Riding on the Beach

Have you always wanted to ride off into the sunset on a beautiful stretch of beach?  Well, now you can!  C & M Stables offers a bevy of options for horseback riding, whether on the beach or on the dunes.  They offer rides for every experience level, ranging from corral rides for very young people, to morning beach outings for advanced riders who want to trot or canter on one of the beautiful, sandy beaches along the central Oregon Coast.  Reservations are required.  Please visit their website for more information.

Hike, Bike, Paddle

There is so much to see on the central Oregon Coast!  Whether you like to hike, bike or paddle, we have a trail guaranteed to fill your day with wonder and breathtaking beauty.  Be sure to check out this interpretive trails map which encompasses Yachats, Waldport and Seal Rock.  This map is your introductory guide to hiking, biking and paddling trails along an enchanting 20-mile stretch of the stunning Oregon coast.  It’ll direct you to rocky coastal shorelines and long expanses of sandy beach, inland bays, rivers and estuaries, along with forested coastal mountains and temperate old-growth rainforests.  With trails ranging from wheelchair accessible to “difficult,” there are opportunities for all members of your family.

Transformative Fun

Two great events are happening the first weekend of August.  The 20th Annual Pathways to Transformation Holistic Health, Psychic, & Crafts Fair will be held August 6 & 7 inside the Yachats Commons at 441 Hwy 101 & 4th St.  This entertaining event features 70 exhibits, and offers the largest Oregon Coast gathering of holistic health practitioners, psychic readers, health and wellness products, crystals, and other spiritually oriented products and information.  The weekend line-up boasts 22 seminars, with topics including health, well-being and spiritual development.

The Village of Yachats will ramp things up on Sunday, August 7th, with a free outdoor concert held at the Yachats Commons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Your toes will be tapping to a mix of swinging blues, reggae, folk-pop and jazzy jamming with the musical stylings of Rob Tobias and the Northwest Express.  Barbecue, beer and wine will be available for purchase.
