Overleaf Lodge guests come to relax, reconnect, and rejuvenate. Often times settling down in their room with a good book and relaxing while watching the mesmerizing ocean is the perfect way to rejuvenate. Our guests find additional solace in beachcombing, exploring tide pools, or taking a short walk along the oceanfront 804 Trail which lies at the ocean’s edge just outside the Overleaf Lodge. Others enjoy the many amenities the Overleaf Spa offers while some like to workout in our ocean view exercise room . For many, these elements provide the perfect getaway.
For others, the need to explore historical or cultural activities or other area natural wonders are the perfect elixir to a coastal vacation. To gain the full marine experience, trips to the visitor’s center at Cape Perpetua (just 3 miles south), Heceta Head Lighthouse and the Sea Lion Caves (just 20 minutes south) will instill a sense of wonder and amazement. For those whose desires are more active, hiking trails abound starting at the Overleaf Lodge and meandering throughout Yachats, at Cape Perpetua and further south at Washburn State Park just north of Heceta Head Lighthouse. If bicycling is your style, Highway 101 has world class vistas, especially heading south from the Overleaf Lodge. Well maintained mountain biking trails can be experienced at Cape Perpetua.
To the north, in Newport, the Oregon Coast Aquarium attracts visitors from near and far and is one of the top aquariums in the world. For those who want to dig a little further into the “what” and the “why” of marine life, the Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center exhibits interactive working displays detailing results of marine studies and explorations. Additionally, there are two more lighthouses (one haunted!) to explore in Newport and additional hiking trails and interpretive displays abound at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse just north of Newport.
If gallery hopping is more your gig, then immediately across Highway 101 from the Overleaf Lodge, four galleries exhibit some of the best and most creative artwork you will see along the coast. Additional gift shops and galleries offer unique items next door at the Fireside Motel’s Village Gift Gallery and also in the town of Yachats. World class wood carving art is on display at Brian McEneny Woodcarving Gallery in Seal Rock, about 15 minutes north of the Overleaf Lodge.
